Learning Journal Post #5

In learning module 5 I optimized images, created a slide show and made an avatar using voki.com. This modules also focused on file sharing and we learned about web 2.0 applications. I found out that web 2.0 applications are used for online collaboration and sharing among users and includes technologies such as podcasting, blogs, vlogs, RSS feeds, social bookmarking, social network sites like myspace, or facebook, Wiki's, Youtube, google earth, and photo sharing.  Pretty much every site that is used by people to create, collaborate and share by using online tools. I learned about illegal downloading (P2P), different image formats such as bit-map, jpeg, GIFs, Vector and PNG images. I found out that over the web JPEG images are the most common. I missed the initial discussion post and highly regret it but after reading my classmates posts they are discussing peer to peer downloading and illegal downloading.

5 Terms I learned
Tag cloud - a visual representation of the most popular tags
Mashups - web applications that combine data from multiple sources
Semantic Web - a web that is able to describe things in a way that computers can understand
Pixel - is a single point in a raster image in digital imaging
Peer to Peer File Sharing - is a form of file sharing using peer to peer networking
