In learning module 5 I optimized images, created a slide show and made an avatar using voki.com. This modules also focused on file sharing and we learned about web 2.0 applications. I found out that web 2.0 applications are used for online collaboration and sharing among users and includes technologies such as podcasting, blogs, vlogs, RSS feeds, social bookmarking, social network sites like myspace, or facebook, Wiki's, Youtube, google earth, and photo sharing. Pretty much every site that is used by people to create, collaborate and share by using online tools. I learned about illegal downloading (P2P), different image formats such as bit-map, jpeg, GIFs, Vector and PNG images. I found out that over the web JPEG images are the most common. I missed the initial discussion post and highly regret it but after reading my classmates posts they are discussing peer to peer downloading and illegal downloading.
5 Terms I learned
Tag cloud - a visual representation of the most popular tags
Mashups - web applications that combine data from multiple sources
Semantic Web - a web that is able to describe things in a way that computers can understand
Pixel - is a single point in a raster image in digital imaging
Peer to Peer File Sharing - is a form of file sharing using peer to peer networking

Learning Journal Post #4
I learned a lot about communicating and collaborating in learning module 4. The class had group projects on different social media tools such as blogging, micro-blogging, social networking and wikis. My group did "virtual worlds" and I learned a lot about them as I researched them for the project. I took a different approach to researching them, I made my own second life account and went to various locations and tours. I learned about the Sistine Chapel and that people spend Mardi Gras online in virtual worlds they create with videos and music playing as they virtually dance. My part of the group assignment was to research the education in virtual worlds and surprisingly the area that education is used in virtual worlds is massive! Children have virtual worlds and adults have virtual worlds designed specifically for education and many teachers/professors use them to recreate virtual classrooms. I also learned more about social bookmarking and I became more familiar with delicious.
Five Terms I learned
IMAP4 - Internet Messaging Access Protocol to receive email
List Serve/ Mailing List - A form of discussion taking place over email
Micro-Blogging - Combines blogging and instant messaging
Wikis - web pages that can be edited by authorized users (good for quick information)
POP3 - Post Office Protocol used to receive email
A really good video on education in Second Life

Learning Journal Post #3
After completing learning module 3, I learned a lot more about searching the web for information. The most interesting part of learning module 3 was when we covered the “Invisible Web” that is a mass selection of web pages that are not found by search engines. The web pages have either no or few links to them and are hard to find. The invisible web is also known as the deep web. Also, I learned how search engines work and how they use “spider’s” or “Web Crawler’s” to gather web pages.
In the 21st century people should know skills such as Information Literacy, and Media Literacy. This means that they should know how to use technology and media to gain information, understand communication tools and use networks.
5 definitions:
IF (Information Fluency) - the ability to gather, evaluate, and use information in ethical and legal ways.
Digital Etiquette – basic set of rules when using the Internet. It is also called netiquette.
Digital Dirt – is searchable “dirt” or web history that can be searched on a person. People clean their digital dirt before applying for certain jobs.
Directory – a human-compiled hierarchical list of Web pages organized by category.
Boolean operator – a conjunction used in a logical expression. They use “AND. OR, NOT and quotations” to help search results in search queries.
