Learning Journal Post #2

I learned a lot more about web technology during learning module 2. This time around the material was not based on Internet history. One thing that stuck out to me was the difference between IP addresses and domain names. I learned differences between popular Internet browsers and about a web browser called Flock that is primarily used as a social networking browser. In “Web Lab 3” I had to give tips when shopping online and I had to write about child safety on the web. I found that the Internet is a dark place both for shoppers and children if they do not use caution. For the first time ever I used Jing in “Web Lab 2” and I found that it was extremely easy to use. I also learned how to create a “Wordle” which is displayed in this journal.

I did not ace the tests this time around but I am putting a lot of effort into this class. I hope that I continue to do well and that I learn more and more about web technology. The only thing that I did not like this time around was the interactive quizzes. I did not learn anything new and they were cheesy I think.

Wordle: 5 Terms

5 New Terms I learned:

Malware - (Malicious Software) Software designed to access computer without users consent.

Hop – forwarding a packet to the next Internet router.
I got this wrong on the test.

DHCP Server- assigns IP addresses to a client when the client logs on to a TCP/IP network.

Phishing - criminals try to obtain sensitive information usually through email or instant messaging.

Proxy Server- Company network that allows company computers to connect. NCCC uses a proxy server.

A video designed for children about web safety.
